Brobee Ornament or Applique Tutorial

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

You know how sometimes you have a project in your head for a while, but you can't quite figure out the mechanics, and then suddenly it hits you? I was lying in bed last night, when I finally figured out how to make the Yo Gabba Gabba Christmas ornaments and appliques I've been thinking about for a while. It's a tradition to buy or make my kiddos Christmas ornaments every year that correspond with whatever their interests were that year. I figured I'd have trouble finding YGG ornaments in the store this year, so I've been trying to figure out a way to make them, given that I can't draw or paint, am not especially gifted with fimo clay, and am only a mediocre seamstress.
I got up before the kids this morning, and drew up the pattern for Brobee, and figured out how to share a file, so here ya go. Obviously, this pattern is for personal use only. Please don't sell them, but feel free to make as many of them as you want for all the YGG fans you know.
The other characters are hopefully forthcoming soon. Also, I know not everyone's kids are as in love with Yo Gabba Gabba as mine are, but you could easily use the same principle to make any other simple characters. Bob and Larry would be easy.
Here's one I made this morning and attached to a t shirt. As yet, the horns are sort of hanging loose. I haven't decided whether I like the sort of 3-D look, or whether I want to sew them down.
My model would neither stand up, nor sit up straight. But you get the idea...

(I should mention that although I included a pattern piece for the black line on Brobee's mouth, in the end, it proved awkward to cut out, so I just improvised, and cut one out freehand. Do whatever's easier. Smaller scissors would have been easier, but I couldn't find any.)

  2. Your applique looks great! I have never done one before, but want to make a Yo Gabba Gabba quilt for a little girl that was just diagnosed with cancer. (Yo Gabba Gabba is her fevorite show.) I tried to access your file , but the link doesn't work. Can you tell me what fabric you used/how you made your applique?
