Easter Sensory Bin

Easter themed sensory bin.

I put together a new Easter themed sensory bin for V, even though it's a bit early.

Instead of my usual method of dyeing rice, (food coloring and alcohol,) I used the Kool-Aid dyeing method described in this post at Teach Preschool. I used pink lemonade Kool-Aid, and it resulted in a soft pretty pink color that smelled slightly fruity. (Also, in case you're wondering, the color didn't rub off on our hands.)

I included several packages of Easter themed Erasers, (currently available in the Dollar Spot at Target,) some bunny finger puppets, small plastic eggs, and tiny baskets, (from Hobby Lobby,) and some little Easter themed mazes, (from Dollar Tree.)

There are several ways to play with this bin. The items in it could be sorted by color or type, or V can just do what she usually does, which is make up some sort of imaginative story about the bunny family's adventures.

V never seems to get tired of playing with these little bins, whether they're super simple like this one, or more elaborate, like some of the other's I've made.

An Unplugged Easter

Easter was something else this year.

Easter Peeps cupcakes.

We had planned to attend church in the morning, cook in the afternoon, and have the family over for an egg hunt in the evening.

Saturday night, about 1 o'clock, strong wind blew out the transformer on our part of the street. We weren't terribly worried. We've never been without power more than 7 or 8 hours.

When we woke up in the morning, it was still out. We missed church, and waited for the power to come back on. We belatedly remembered that we'd be able to cook a little with the gas stove, and so started on dinner. Still we waited.

When everyone arrived at the allotted time, we had hospitality and hot food, but um, no light or air conditioner. We proceeded to entertain about 15 people, mainly out on the screened in back porch. We discovered that paper plates actually make better fans than pieces of computer paper.

The kids had their egg hunt, and we made the best of things.

After everyone left, we quickly got ready for bed. There's not much else to do when the house is hot, and dark, and all the electronic gadgets have lost their charge. I felt a little like were living in a Laura Ingalls Wilder book.

Next morning, still no power.

It was finally restored at around noon, but not before ruining all our food, and nearly making us lose our marbles.

I'm so glad to have electricity again, friends and family who don't mind sweating in the dark with us, and sweet neighbors who pitched in for those of us without power.

Easter Link Round Up

It's nearly Easter, and I was looking through my bookmarked sites for some inspiration this year. I thought I'd share a few of my favorites.

Felt Jelly Bean Beans Bags at the Purl Bee (These would make such a cute, sugar free basket filler.)

Easter Peeps Smores at Roots & Wings Co. (Sigh, Not vegetarian, so none for me, but I'm sure my kids would love them...)

Felt Peeps Bunting at V. and Co (I have a thing for Peeps, even though I don't eat them. They're so cute and iconic.)

A whole round up of Yo Gabba Gabba related things to make for Easter at Gabba Friends. *Swoon*

Lots and lots of ideas for an Easter themed unit for little ones at Teaching is a Work of Heart.

Feel free to link up any Easter related posts of your own in the comments. I'd love to see 'em.

Happy Easter!

Here's a pic of baby V at the church Easter egg hunt today. We didn't get any pics of L because he was racing around at warp speed.
The kids had fun, and V even allowed us to take her picture with the Easter Bunny. L would have no part of it, and hid under the table instead. I saw one little girl hit the Easter Bunny, another kid kept saying "he's gonna bite me!", and as usual, there were several criers. Kids are so funny.
