I joined a new homeschooling website the other day, and it looks great. There are message boards, discussion groups on a variety of topics, articles, a live chat room, and lots more. The people there are also really nice. I got several welcome messages as soon as I joined the site. Anyway, the site is called The Homeschool Lounge, and it looks like it will be a great resource, so I thought I'd let everyone know about it.
Additionally, they are currently holding an open house, with a MckLinky for everyone to link up intro posts.
My name is Lisa. I am a 28 year old sahm mom to 16 month old baby V, and 4 year old L. I've been married for 9 years to C, who I met as a highschool freshman. I like to do all kinds of crafty things, and occasionally sell tie dye on Etsy. I've also recently started selling Usborne books, which I'm really excited about. (I love books!)We decided we wanted to homeschool before we even had any kids.
This will be our first full year of homeschooling. We are in the process of having L evaluated, but it is my belief that he is on the Autistic Spectrum, likely an Aspie. As such, his skills are all over the place. (Very advanced in certain areas, behind in others.) We are doing Pre-K at home this year, using an eclectic conglomeration of resources. I recently found myself getting really stressed about how to address his needs perfectly, and choosing just the right curriculum, and I had to ask myself why we were choosing to homeschool anyway. For us, it's always been about teaching to kids to love learning and following their interests. To that end, I'm going to try to relax and have fun.
L has a special interest in mechanical things, mainly trains, but also construction vehicles, and robots, so I'll be trying to work those things in wherever I can.
