Friday Homeschool Wrap Up

Since L didn't seem to be really enjoying the transportation unit we had been working on, I decided to drop it.
We've all been sick this week, so I decided to take things in a little bit of a different direction. We spent the week working in workbooks and reading. It might  not sound like a terribly interesting plan, but the truth is, we had a fun, relaxed week, and actually got a lot (of bookwork) done.

I'm always amazed by the fact that L seems perfectly content to do straight book work. It's not my preferred method to teach or learn, but I'm going to keep it in mind for weeks when an in depth unit study, with lots of projects and complicated activities just doesn't seem practical.

We started reading one of my old favorites, Where the Red Fern Grows. I'm not really sure that L is old enough for it, but it has lead to many hours of reading and snuggling in bed, (well, in between coughing fits.)

Next week we'll be starting a new unit: fall & Halloween. The plan is to spend about a week on each subtopic. (We'll be studying leaves, apples, pumpkins, bats, and Halloween.)
