Crochet "scrubbie" pattern

I crocheted myself some of these little face scrubbies, and thought I'd share the pattern, if you want to call it that. (There isn't much to it.)

You'll need WW cotton yarn, and an I hook.

Chain 12.
Turn.
Row 1:SC in BLO across. Chain 2.Turn.
Row 2:DC in BLO across. Chain 1.Turn.
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have a total of 7 rows, and the scrubbie is squarish.

The resulting texture is great for lightly exfoliating, and incidentally, this stitch pattern showcases variegated yarn nicely. These work up in just a few minutes, and one ball of yarn would probably make a million of them.

These are an eco friendly replacement for tissues or cotton squares for applying toner or removing eye makeup, and are nice for cleansing your face.

A little bundle of 8 or 10 of them, tied up with ribbon and accompanied by a nice bar of home made soap, or a bottle of Dr Bronner's (my favorite!) would make a nice "green" gift.

(Worst picture ever, right? Sorry. I was in a hurry.)

  1. I need to make myself some washcloths...the ones my husband's grandmother gave me are getting very worn out. I might make some of these as little scrub pads too...for dishes! haha!! Just tonight I was looking for patterns for dishcloths since I only have knit ones to look at for ideas and I don't knit.

  2. If you chain about 30, instead of 12, this pattern would make a great dishcloth. I was actually thinking last night that I needed to make myself some more of those.

  3. It's things like this that make me want to learn how to crochet.

  4. Hi there. I am just learning to crochet but I don't know what BLO stands for? Everything else I figured out. Think my daughter will loove these. I can knit a dish cloth but never thought about this idea TFS

  5. Regarding a question I got in my email, BLO stands for back loop only. Crocheting in the back loop only will give you the ribbed texture that makes these "scrubby".

  6. Love this! I am so glad you linked it to the stocking stuffer list. Plus, that is also my FAV soap. Stumbled onto it six or so months ago after trying what seemed like a trillion different green-type soaps. LOVE IT! I'm following now, so I can stay in the loop of other great ideas. But do come back and link up again.
